Talented and gifted programming at Washington-Caldwell is coordinated through the Southern Lakes Advanced Learners Network, SLALN.
Through the SLALN Washington-Caldwell students have access to many opportunities. These include the Southern Lakes Anthology program. Each year many students in third through eighth grade produce pieces of writing and art to be judged for inclusion in the anthology. From these pieces, twenty-four entries are taken to a judging round. From these twenty-four, seven Washington-Caldwell students are judged with high enough scores to be published.
There are three programs that challenge students in Math. Math 24 is a competition for students in fourth through seventh grade to create combinations with different math concepts. This year Washington-Caldwell will once again play host to two Math 24 tournaments on February 10 and 17. WC students are also involved in Math Meets. Teams of four students in fifth through eighth grade complete individual and team math tests. Along with these two programs, WC students will also be involved in an academic bowl.

Washington School began a Talented and Gifted (TAG) program in the spring of 2009. We started by identifying students who may be talented in one or more academic areas.
Our program is brand new and we are making good initial steps. One step we have made is joining the Whitewater Talented and Gifted Network. This is a consortium of school districts in southeastern Wisconsin who share information and programming for their gifted students. Some of the programs we will be involved with include:
Middle School Leadership Conference—this is a workshop for eighth grade students to learn practice leadership skills
Southern Lakes Anthology—this program offers all of our students in third through eighth grade the opportunity to have their writing or art work published in an anthology
Math24—this will allow fourth grade through seventh grade students who excel in math the chance to practice and compete in a fun math based card game.
Math Meets—this is a quiz bowl type competition that will allow students in fifth through eighth grade to flex their math muscles.
Art Immersion Day—this program allows four eighth grade students to attend workshops in the arts.
The Whitewater TAG network is working on creating a program for science and a small school quiz bowl that would challenge students in all the core subject areas.
